Position Details

About the Role:

The position is based in Port Moresby and reports to the Head of Regulatory & Policy Compliance. The successful incumbent will be responsible to assist with the establishment and maintenance of a robust and effective Compliance Framework in Papua New Guinea and the countries that BSP operates.

Key Deliverables:
  • Primary responsibility to update Head of Regulatory & Policy Compliance, GGMC and Executive Management with information on revisions to laws and new regulations that impact BSP’s operations in PNG and all jurisdictions within which BSP operates.
  • Verify that key controls or appropriate controls are in place for the obligations identified in the Obligations Registers and integrated into operational procedures and processes.
  • Development and oversee the implementation of Compliance Plans.
  • Supervise the Compliance Integration team to regularly assess the relevance of the Compliance Plans and the resolution actions that are developed as a result of the execution of the Compliance Plans.
  • Develop policies and procedures to meet regulatory compliance requirements including working collaboratively with other business units to design and implement policies and procedures that meet regulatory guidelines.
  • Responsible for maintenance of all procedure documentation for the Regulatory and Policy Compliance business unit.
  • Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies as appropriate.
  • Maintaining an understanding of relevant regulatory requirements, including Anti-Bribery and Corruption related regulations, to provide advice and guidance to Executive management enabling them to implement compliant policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining an understanding of the regulatory requirements relevant to the BSP’s operations, products, channels and services.
  • Keep abreast of changes in relevant laws, regulations and industry standards and guidelines and work closely with relevant business units to ensure they understand the compliance requirements and address identified areas of non- compliance or facilitate training.
  • Establish, implement and oversee the compliance risk assessment process ensuring that compliance risks are appropriately identified and mitigated.
Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
  • Admitted to practice law in PNG with Current practicing certificate  Proficient in oral and written English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications  People Management skills.
  • Strong presentation, communication and interpersonal skills  Knowledge of banking products and services.
  • Detailed understanding of regulatory compliance.  Policies & Procedures drafting skills.
  • 5 years’ Post qualification experience, at least 2 of which have been spent in a compliance or risk management role.
