Infrastructure Engineer

About the Role

Based in Port Moresby, this position reports to the Manager of Infrastructure Operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing BSP’s ICT environments within the BSP Networks. This role focuses on ensuring 24/7 availability and enhancing service quality through effective planning, design, deployment, and continuous monitoring.

Key Deliverables

• Oversee BSP Server environments across Pacific Island Countries, Data Centers, and Branches. This includes monitoring, proactive maintenance, capacity planning, and resource management to ensure optimal performance.
• Provide prompt responses and resolutions to incidents logged through the IT Helpdesk system. Collaborate with service providers to address performance issues and outages during server provisioning, upgrades, migrations, and replacements, as well as assist with business project implementations.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides related to server management. Ensure compliance with IT policies and standards.
• Design and implement disaster recovery capabilities for server environments to support business agility and continuity. Provide recommendations and manage environments to ensure capacity growth, high availability, automatic failover, and effective disaster recovery.
• Collaborate with team members to streamline service delivery processes. Configure Disaster Recovery (DR) software for local and replicated scenarios and troubleshoot issues related to backup and DR systems.
• Ensure that critical systems and data are included in daily backup operations using third-party software and hardware. Conduct periodic test restores to verify the integrity of backup media.
• Oversee effective patch management for server environments, from the control site to production. Plan and execute lifecycle management for system maintenance, updates, and upgrades.
• Monitor all outages and produce detailed incident reports for management. Provide weekly and monthly performance statistics on server environments.
• Make recommendations and design environments to meet service expectations for capacity growth, high availability, automatic failover, and disaster recovery.
• Manage incidents from identification to resolution, ensuring effective communication throughout the process.

Essential Qualifications, Professional/ Skills and Experience:

• Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
• Strong ability to promote technical best practices and mentor Infrastructure team members
• Experience in a similar role within an enterprise environment

• Relevant industry certifications
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory Services
• Proficient in Windows System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
• Experience with Windows Server operations (preferably 2016 & 2019)
• Skilled in VMware virtualization (configuration, support, and administration)
• Experience managing and configuring Microsoft Exchange environments
• Familiarity with HPE Server, Storage, and Compute Infrastructure
• Experience with Veeam Backup services
• Participation in incident, problem, and change management processes aligned with ITIL methodology
• 5-8 years of relevant experience
