Position Details

About the Role

Based in Port Moresby reporting to the Group General Manager Retail, The Head of Merchant Acquiring will be responsible for overseeing all strategic and operational aspects of BSP’s Merchant Acquiring business in PNG and across the Pacific Markets. This includes optimising current operational processes, driving business growth, managing relationships with key partners, optimising EFTPOS payment solutions for customers, and ensuring high standards of service and compliance.

Key Deliverables

  • Oversee BSP Groups merchant acquiring business in PNG and across the Pacific Markets, with a focus on growth, profitability, and operational excellence.
  • Drive the development of BSP’s merchant acquiring operating model in consultation with internal stakeholders in PNG and across the Pacific, and subsequently operationalise this model.
  • Develop merchant segmentation propositions in liaison with all relevant internal stakeholders in PNG and the Pacific.
  • Develop and implement plans, initiatives, and goals to expand market share and enhance service offerings.
  • Manage the P&L for the Merchant Acquiring division.
  • Monitor performance metrics, set and track KPIs, and ensure that financial targets are met.
  • Use data and analytics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Drive new business acquisition by identifying opportunities for customer and revenue growth.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Verifone, BPNG, other banks, and financial institutions.
  • Work closely with Product and Technology teams to improve payment solutions, enhance the merchant experience, and integrate new payment technologies.
  • Maintain an understanding of the competitive landscape and market trends.
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing team, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities. Foster a collaborative, results-oriented work environment.
  • Oversee the delivery of exceptional customer service to merchants, ensuring the seamless onboarding, integration, and support of payment solutions.
  • Ensure that the division operates in full compliance with all industry regulations, including PCI-DSS, AML, and local/national financial laws.

Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field.
  • 10 years or more experience in financial services, with a minimum of 5 years in a Senior Management/Leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success in driving growth and profitability, with a proven track record of achieving business objectives.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to manage and build strategic business relationships.
  • Focused on achieving operational efficiency and ensuring customer satisfaction.
