Position Details

About the Role

This position is based in Port Moresby and reports to the Manager Database and Middleware. The successful incumbent is responsible to support and maintain the Databases used by BSP Applications, ensuring Database systems are available for use in line with agreed Service Levels.

Key Deliverables
  • Ensure quality and timely delivery of service levels to Application Teams and Business customers including the development and maintenance of operational procedures and configuration documentation.
  • Monitor and ensure service availability of databases, develop processes and procedures to ensure database availability levels meet or exceed the agreed Service Level Agreements.
  • Provide timely support to internal customers for queries received regarding the creation or maintenance of databases, liaising with & escalating where necessary to other internal and external support teams for faults and service jobs logged & ensure successful resolution.
  • Ensure all assigned tasks are completed accurately & efficiently, within the time frames defined by the relevant Project Plan, Request for Change or Incident SLA. Ensure Change, Incident and Problem Management processes and procedures are followed and adhered to standards.
  • Provide effective primary level technical support and secondary level technical support of escalated issues including after-hours support and participating in ONCALL /SHIFT rotation with other team members as required.
  • Ensure all factors relating to business risks are considered and relevant actions taken to manage or mitigate risks according to procedures, policies and guidelines. This includes maintaining and regular testing of the Business Continuity Plan and / or Disaster Recovery Plan. Assisting with Audit enquiries and ensure recommendations and tasks are carried out within the set timeframes.
Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor Degree in IT.
  • Excellent knowledge and capability with SQL Query writing and database programming.
  • Sound knowledge in Database Modelling and Design.
  • Good Understanding of Database Administration Functions and principles such as High Database, Availability, Data Integrity, Security and database performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Sound knowledge of Data Migration and Transformation using SSIS/DTS or equivalent technologies.
  • Sound knowledge of Data warehousing and reporting using SSRS and BI tools.
  • At least 2 years practical experience in database administration.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in an ITIL incident and change managed environment.
