Position Details

About the Role

The position is based in Port Moresby and reports to the Head of Retail Credit Risk. The successful incumbent is responsible to integral to managing the end-to-end lifecycle of a lending portfolio, encompassing product-level reviews, optimizing standards, identifying areas for improvement, defining pilots, reporting analyses, developing acquisition, pricing and collection strategies, automated decisioning and educating and supporting staff members in related units, such as Underwriting, Collections and CVM.

Key Deliverables
  • Develop and oversee end-to-end credit risk strategies across acquisitions, active portfolio management, and collections to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and risk appetite.
  • Take accountability for tools such as scorecards, decisioning rules, risk-based pricing models, credit engines, and other automation technologies, ensuring their effective deployment and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Manage credit models for scoring, automation, and related purposes, ensuring they are fit for purpose, effectively monitored, and regularly validated.
  • Lead the creation and execution of detailed regular reporting and frameworks covering the entire portfolio lifecycle. Deliver actionable insights on portfolio health, trends, and opportunities to enhance the risk-return profile.
  • Leverage metrics, advanced data visualization, and in-depth analysis and forecasting to clearly communicate portfolio performance and identify areas for improvement or innovation.
  • Conduct specialized data mining, customer profiling, and portfolio analysis to address specific business questions and support broader departmental objectives.
  • Develop and manage both quantitative and qualitative risk appetite frameworks for the retail lending portfolio, providing critical insights and recommendations to executives and the board.
  • Promote the adoption of automated decisioning technologies to improve efficiency, accuracy, and speed in credit processes, from underwriting to collections.
  • Enhance the skills and knowledge of related teams such as Underwriting, Collections, and Customer Value Management (CVM), driving alignment with the organization's risk culture and strategic priorities.
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives by standardizing practices, tools, and templates for portfolio and project management, ensuring consistency and compliance with organizational standards.
Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:
  • University degree in a STEM or related discipline.
  • The suitable candidate should possess strong technical expertise, coupled with exceptional business acumen and excellent communication skills.
  • Strong sense of vision and direction for credit analytics with the ability to communicate this vision and bring others with you.
  • Highly numerate and analytical.
  • Exposure to analytical tools and risk analytics MS Office (especially Excel, Word and Powerpoint)
  • Hands on SAS, SQL, R, Python, VBA or other coding tools
  • Exposure to decisioning engines
  • Understanding and ability to perform predictive modelling
  • Strong understanding of retail credit risk and financial concepts
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to manage a balance between technical detailand pragmatic solutions
  • Proven track record of working with data
  • Ability to partner with third-parties and providers to deliver successful business outcomes
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in finance industry with at least 7 years in a credit risk management role, preferably unsecured retail lending
